Snook and Pompano were the catch of the day while fishing with Capt. Kelly Kurtz on a Charter out of CB’S Saltwater Outfitters this past week. March is an excellent month for anglers, and snook are actively gathering on the flats in search of baitfish. and with rising water temperatures, fish will need to feed more frequently as their metabolism increases.
Snook are caught by anglers fishing the inshore waters in Sarasota. Those include mangrove shorelines, points, docks, oyster bars, grass flats with potholes, channels, and seawalls. Any structure that provides a bit of cover can hold snook.
Here in Sarasota Bay snook season is closed from December 1 to the end of February and from May 1 to August 31. Otherwise, you can keep one Snook between 28 and 33 inches.
