Darby, from Nashville Tennessee, caught this beautiful mackerel in Sarasota Bay the other day while fishing the best trout bite in almost 30 years. Trout fishing in Sarasota Bay in August can be productive, particularly early and late in the day when temperatures are cooler. Look for trout on deep grass flats, near oyster bars, and along mangrove shorelines.
You can also find them in areas where you find redfish, especially near passes and points with good tidal flow. Grab your kids and treat them to a back to school fishing trip with me.
It doesn’t get much better than August on Sarasota Bay.
