Capt. Rick Grassett’s Weekly Fishing Report
Anglers fishing with me, out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had good action catching and releasing tarpon in the coastal gulf recently. A couple of Sarasota Bay trips also produced a few trout and bluefish on Clouser flies.
Fly anglers had good action with tarpon, hooking and jumping several. Clark Keator, from Orlando, fly fished with me, jumping 2 tarpon and fighting one to the boat.
Mike Storey, from Bradenton, also had some tarpon action, jumping one on a fly. Dennis, Cliff and Mason Ondercin, from Sarasota, also tarpon fished a couple of days with me. They had good action, jumping several tarpon and fighting one to the boat on live crabs with spinning tackle.
They also caught and released a bonus cobia that was sight-fished off the back of a spotted eagle ray with a DOA Shrimp! A great job, not bad for by-catch!
Tarpon fishing should be a good option in the coastal gulf depending on conditions. Look for snook in the surf and reds and larger trout in shallow water. Fishing deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay is a usually a good choice for action with a variety of species including trout, pompano, blues and more.
Our natural resources are under constant pressure from red tides fueled by industrial, agricultural and residential runoff, toxic spills and discharges, freezes, increasing fishing pressure and habitat loss and degradation, please limit your kill, don’t kill your limit!

John, who has gone out with me several times, is from Pennsylvania. He enjoys being on the water, spotting all of the wildlife, fishing and smoking an occasional cigar.
We did an all day trip in Sarasota Bay looking for whatever might want to be caught. We were fortunate to find an area that was holding some nice snook, redfish, and trout that were eager to attack our Lures. We caught and released several redfish and snook. John is an excellent fisherman and and great conversationalist and look forward to his next trip to Sarasota.

Capt. Bryan Galasso’s Weekly Fishing Report
Spring has sprung, water temperatures are warming, and bait is coming back and all signs point to some great fishing! Snook are hungry and the bay is coming alive. As the warming trend continues we’re anxiously waiting for the drag screaming King Mackerel to start their spring migration.
This past week the snook bite has been awesome and we’ve been catching some tasty fish like Pompano, Permit, Snappers, Black Drum and Sheepshead as these photos from today’s action with Dane and Katie from New York attest.
These two visitors from New York certainly had a great day catching and releasing Snook, Jack Crevalle, and Snappers.

Capt. Chuck Cress’s Weekly Fishing Report
Matthew and his wife Joy, from Wisconsin, had a surprisingly good day fishing. Surprising because it was very chilly, low tide, and a full moon.
With those conditions you don’t expect to really have a banner day on the water. However the husband and wife team managed to catch several different species of fish. Using artificial bait and live shrimp they caught and safely released trout, jacks, snook, red fish, and ladyfish.
Matthew, an avid angler hooked and brought to the boat the largest redfish I have seen on board in quite some time. After hooking the bull redfish it took off. ran under the dock wrapped around the pilings, and would not come out without a fight. With great skill Matthew was able to weave his fishing pole around the pilings and lead the fish to open waters were we finally get it on board. So the moral of the story is the best time to go fishing is any time you can.

Look for reds, snook and large trout in shallow water. Fishing deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay is a usually a good choice for action with a variety of species including trout, Spanish mackerel, jacks, blues and more.
Our natural resources are under constant pressure from red tides fueled by industrial, agricultural and residential runoff, toxic spills and discharges, freezes, increasing fishing pressure and habitat loss and degradation, please limit your kill, don’t kill your limit!
Anglers fishing with me, out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had good action in Sarasota Bay with me recently.

Pat Beckwith, from Sarasota, caught and released this Blue on a fly.
Bill Morrison, from Anna Maria, and Don Morrison, from MA, fished a trip with me and had great action with trout and Spanish mackerel on flies and CAL jigs with shad tails. Dave Reinhart, from MA, fished skinny water with me on a blustery day later in the week.
Fish were turned on ahead of an approaching front. He caught and released a slam, including a 28” snook, 28” redfish, trout and a couple of pompano that were sight fished on top of a bar in 18” of water, all on CAL jigs with a grub tail! Not big numbers of fish but a great day for quality fish and variety.
Fishing deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay is a good choice for action with a variety of species including trout, pompano, blues and Spanish mackerel. Check the coastal gulf for Spanish mackerel, false albacore and tripletail when conditions are good. Shallow water fishing for reds and large trout is also a good option now, although they are very challenging in clear water. These conditions usually require long casts to avoid spooking fish.
Our natural resources are under constant pressure from red tides fueled by industrial, agricultural and residential runoff, freezes, increasing fishing pressure and habitat loss and degradation, please limit your kill, don’t kill your limit!
Capt. Chuck Cress’s Weekly Fishing Report
Carol, who lives on Longboat Key, and her son-in-law Matt from Connecticut, Booked a Charter with me out of CB’S Outfitters on Siesta Key this past week.
Before we left the dock I told Matt, who is an avid fisherman, that fishing has been a little slow due to low and slow tides But that today’s tides might allow us to get into an area where I had seen some redfish earlier in the week.
Shortly after arriving at our spot Carol hooked this sought after redfish using a popping cork and live shrimp. Just like a pro she brought the fish to the boat after several long runs. The morning ended with several more reds being caught and safely released as well as some jacks and a large unidentified fish that pulled out the drag on the reel but got away.
You never know what you might catch in our local waters unless you get out and try.

Fly anglers fishing with me, out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had good action catching and releasing tripletail in the coastal gulf and snook at night in the ICW and spin fishing anglers scored with DOA Lures on snook, trout, redfish, jacks and pompano in Sarasota Bay recently.
Bill Morrison, from Anna Maria Island, had great action catching several tripletail on flies on a recent trip with me. Dan Patterson, from Siesta Key, also got in on the action, catching and releasing his first tripletail on a fly on another trip with me.
A friend, Jim Hazlett from Sarasota, invited me to fish with him offshore to hunt tripletail one day. It was a treat to catch a couple on a fly myself. The best fish were a couple of large jacks that were busting baits along a seawall that he caught and released on a CAL jig with a shad tail. Great way to finish!
My brother, Joey Grassett from Seaford, DE, visited for a few days and we fished a variety of options from shallow and deep flats to the coastal gulf. We caught and released a few snook, trout and a red in shallow water on CAL jigs with grubs. We also caught and released trout and a couple of pompano while fishing deeper flats.
Cliff Ondercin, from Sarasota, with a snook caught and released on a fly while fishing the ICW at night with Capt. Rick Grassett recently.

Grab your children and create a family memory that’ll last a lifetime by booking a fishing charter trip out on the water at CB’s Saltwater Outfitters and put a smile on your children’s faces.
And who knows, maybe someday they’ll return the favor and take you fishing too.
Capt. Rick Grassett’s Weekly Fishing Report
Anglers fishing with me, out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had some action catching and releasing reds, snook and trout on DOA Lures in Charlotte Harbor and Sarasota Bay and snook at night on flies in the ICW recently.
Keith McClintock, from Lake Forest, IL fished Sarasota Bay recently with me and caught and released a couple of nice reds and trout on CAL jigs with shad tails. He also fished backcountry areas of Gasparilla Sound on another trip with Stephen Liska, from Naples, and they had some action catching and releasing several reds and snook.
Martin Marlowe, from NY, had a great trip catching and releasing numerous snook on my Grassett Snook Minnow fly while fishing the ICW at night with me recently. Fly anglers Gary Mintz and Taylor Owen, from CO, fished Sarasota Bay with me on another trip and Taylor caught and released a nice Spanish mackerel on a Clouser fly
Look for reds, snook and larger trout in shallow water. Snook at night around bridges and dock lights is also a good option depending on conditions. Our natural resources are under constant pressure from red tides fueled by industrial, agricultural and residential runoff, toxic spills and discharges, freezes, increasing fishing pressure and habitat loss and degradation, please limit your kill, don’t kill your limit!

Fly anglers fishing with me, out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, had some action catching and releasing blues, jack crevalle and snook and spin fishing anglers scored with DOA Lures on snook, redfish, blues and jacks in Sarasota Bay recently.
Mark and Trenton Moreni, from Dillon, MT, fished a night trip and a flats trip in Sarasota Bay with me recently and caught and released several snook and bluefish on flies and a CAL jig with a shad tail.
Keith McClintock, from Lake Forest, IL, fished with me on a couple of other trips with several family members. The group caught and released several snook and a red on CAL jigs with grubs and shad tails.
